Because when answered, they create a plan for Happiness
Find Your Happiness
I have come to understand that by answering three simple questions one can create Happiness. I found this while reading the book ‘The Code of the Extraordinary Mind’ by Vishen Lakhiani.
The basic idea is to sit with a pen and paper and set yourself a time to answer each question. Just let the mind flow onto the paper, without stoping to think too much (as conscious thinking will not create a list of the true inner wants).
The answers to these questions should not be limited by the conventional life blockers of time and money, so here we go:
Give yourself three minutes for each question. After the first you’ll have lots of experiences, some of those could give ideas for learning, that will improve the experience. For example, I want to see giraffes in the wild, so I added learning about them, that way when I do see them, my understanding and knowledge will add to my overall experience, rather than just listen to a guide talking.
If time and money were no object and you did not have to seek anyone’s permission, what would your soul crave…?
- What Experiences would you like to have in your lifetime?
- How would you like to Grow?
- How do you want to Contribute?
Think of examples within each of these four areas for each of the Happiness questions.
Experiences Questions
- Social Life
- Financial Life
- Love Life
- Quality of Life
Growth Questions
- Health and Fitness
- Intellectual Life
- Emotional Life
- Spiritual Life
Contribution Questions
- Your Career
- The Character you are
- Family and Parenting Life
- The Vision for Your Life
These all should excite and thrill you.
Remember this important statement:
If time and money were no object and you did not have to seek anyone’s permission, what would your soul crave…?
Some of my examples of Happiness Questions
Experience:
- I want to visit the seven natural wonders of the world.
- See giraffes in the wild.
- Dive the barrier reef, before it’s gone.
I’ve already started by ticking off Niagara Falls, it’s a phenomenal example of the power of nature. I recommend you spend several days there and plan your visit before hand to make the most of your time. One highlight could be the helecopter view of the falls, fantastic for the photographer in us.
Growth:
- Become an Avid Reader..
- Become an expert in Giraffes.
- Increase my diving experience.
Avid Reader Giraffe Expert Padi open water Dive course
I’m glad I’ve started working on this list! In the case of diving, I’m one step towards the certification I’ll need if I intend to truly enjoy the reef experience. 2021 has seen me dedicate time to read, I now have more knowledge and a greater reading speed.
I plan to read 20 books this year, how many will you read?
Contribution:
- Be there for my family and friends.
- Pass on my learning and journey via this Blog.
- Set an example for my children.
Well, this takes me back to the big life decision that I took, giving up the work life I had in order to focus on living a long healthy life. This may not be rich financially, but when I look at my Happiness Question it is going to give me the time to achieve what’s on the list.
And for you:
I hope this gives you the inspiration to find and achieve your happiness.
I’ll end with a short story: Do you remember the SPOT THE YELLOW CAR GAME? When you were a kid, or even if you have kids, it’s amazing when you start looking for something, how often it appears. Well, this is because you have activated your RAS (reticular activating system). Find out more about the RAS here.
Why not try this out with your family? Explain the process, allow them to complete their own list, then share. You may be surprised and if anyone has matches it may be the extra push needed to tick it off the list.
So with the list in your hand, go looking for the opportunities to tick the list and enjoy the experience.
